Yahoo! Finance Breakout The Analyst Who Downgraded Apple Makes His Case

Last Wednesday Alex Gauna, an analyst with JMP Securities, lowered his rating on Apple (AAPL) to “market perform” from “market outperform” over concerns that Hon Hai, Apple’s manufacturing partner in China, could face “sales growth deceleration.”

Gauna told Breakout that slower sales at Hon Hai could signal that Apple is facing “significant Android competition and weakness in computing products.”

Investors shed Apple shares after Gauna’s downgrade. The stock closed 4.5% lower to settle at $330.01 a share.

Ninety percent of Apple analysts have a positive rating on the stock, with an average target at $433, and downgrades aren’t common. The last downgrade for Apple was in October 2010 by the firms Scotia Capital and Independent Research GmbH.

Five-star fund manager Bruce Ventimiglia of Saratoga Capital Management has a different take on the iPad maker, and he joined Gauna on the Breakout set to make the bullish case on Apple. Ventimiglia told Matt Nesto and Jeff Macke that Apple continues to be a strong investment for the long term and any market pullback signals more buying opportunities. Apple is among the top holdings in his Saratoga Technology & Communications (STPIX) fund.

Apple reports earnings April 19.

Top 2009 Picks and 2010 Predictions

This year has been roller coaster of a year for all. Obama taking office, the recession, the war, health care bill, housing crisis, unemployment.   When you look back, how do you feel? Accomplished, complacent, proud or a feeling of I just got by?

But in the midst of this negative news, technology continues to blossom.  The internet is a continued source of growth and exploration into a digital universe that is still evolving.  There is an incredible combination of elements coming together on the web.  These elements are global population growth on the web, mass communications that are being disseminated, tried and tested technology solutions that are being leveraged by smart businesses.

There are many great highlights from this year:

Twitter – Everyone has something to say. It’s an awesome communication tool that is reshaping business strategy, communications and revenue streams. My twitter is twitter.com/nicoleslavitt

Ebay – In a “down/ recession” market, their stock price opened the year at $14.66 and is now trending at $24.00 as of Dec. 1st, 2009.  Not a bad year for investors.

WordPress – The tool of tools! This incredible open source software should never be underestimated. WordPress, in the correct hands, can accomplish many goals for any business. This blog is using wordpress, I just wanted to disclose.

These sites are still in their infancy.  It is going to be incredible what happens over the next 10 years.

Planning a trip… 13 tips I Just Had to Share

Thea are several planning tips I can provide for planning a solid trip.

Kayak.com – Set up a email alert to track pricing for your destination.  If there is more than one airport option, include those routes in the alert as well. I prefer a daily email because airline prices change so often.

Tripadvisor Forums/ Reviews - This site is a good resource but keep in mind everyone’s opinions are slightly different. Use the forums to search and post specific questions. Ask specific questions in the forums about hotels, agents, places to visit, flight times etc.

Travel Talk Online Forums - Since we are heading to the British Virgin Islands, this forum has great participants that respond with first hand experience.

Prepare your liquids – About a month in advance start looking for 3oz bottles of soap, shampoo, sun black, lotion etc.

Pack a little first aid kit - alcohol pads, stomach medicine, advil/tylenol, bandaid or two. Not worth buying this stuff while away.

Length of stay & luggage - Try to pack the carry on. It’s never fun losing a bag.

Visit local tourism sites - see if there are special events, discounts, maps to be prepared for getting around.

Day trips - check out the providers, check cruise ship schedules and plan around them by reserving in advance.

Local Restaurants - check the forums and tourist board sites for lists, reviews and recommendations.  Make a list so you don’t miss out. And alway ask the locals, what their favorite is.  You may hind a hidden gem.

Set a budget - don’t go crazy spending like you are daddy warbucks.

Bathing Suits - VictoriaSecrets.com, Athleta.gap.com and Landsend.com all have great selections. Give yourself enough time to order and not pay express delivery.

Don’t forget - your chargers, extra battery for the camera, print all your itineraries, boarding passes, make a copy of the passport, leave the jewels behind and leave the stress at the office.

Twitter - do a twitter search and check out the results, who’s there, what people are saying, check out their twitpics.  It’s there to share!

And if you are looking for heaven on earth, I am not even sure I want to share, check out Tortola and the British Virgin Islands.  Everything is ALRIGHT down there! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tortola
